Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during the 10-minute consultation?2022-01-16T15:00:48-06:00

Per the information shared in your inquiry, you will be paired with a therapist who is the best fit to support you for your consultation. In your consultation, you will share any issues that you are interested in working on with the therapist. This is also a good opportunity for you to ask any additional questions that you may have about our practice. At the end of the consultation, if you decide to move forward with therapy, you will schedule your first appointment, an initial assessment to determine a personalized treatment plan and frequency for your sessions.

How long will I be in therapy?2022-01-16T15:01:10-06:00

There is no specific time frame when working on personal development and growth. Depending on the type of changes that you are looking forward to making and the issues that you would like to work on, therapy can last from a few sessions to much longer. Some find therapy to be extremely beneficial and choose to make it a long-term process.

What can I hope to accomplish in therapy?2022-01-16T15:01:30-06:00

There are many benefits to engaging in therapy. Some of these include: gaining a better understanding of oneself, figuring out life goals and prospects, improving personal relationships, developing coping skills, enhancing problem-solving abilities, making positive changes to problem behaviors, and boosting self-esteem. Your therapist will work with you throughout this process and offer new insight to an issue that you have been struggling with.

Do you accept insurance?2023-09-19T12:37:56-05:00

We do accept BCBS & Aetna health Insurance. We will be happy to verify your insurance information and let you know what your out of pocket cost will be per session.

You are welcome to utilize your out-of-network benefits for all other insurance plans.
Many insurance policies offer partial reimbursement to see an out-of-network therapist.
Payment is collected from you directly following your session, and we will be happy to provide you with a superbill which you may submit to your carrier for direct reimbursement sent straight to you.

What are your fees?2022-01-16T15:02:21-06:00

Our fee range varies by service provided. We will be happy to discuss rates with you during your free phone consultation.

What if I cannot afford your fee?2022-01-16T15:02:43-06:00

For clients who cannot afford our full fee, we have a limited number of appointments available at a sliding scale. Our sliding scale is determined and decided on a case-by-case basis. Our sliding scale is based on financial needs, income, availability, and who you would like to see at the practice.

What is your cancellation policy?2022-01-16T15:03:02-06:00

Our cancellation policy requires 24-hour notice of cancellation. Cancellation with less than 24-hours notice requires payment in full. If you are unable to attend your session in person, you can always do it via phone or virtually.

How often do I have to have sessions?2022-01-16T15:03:22-06:00

Weekly sessions are the standard for individual counseling, though clients are welcome to seek more frequent sessions if they are in crisis or want greater insight.

When should I seek out a therapist?2022-01-16T15:03:51-06:00

If you are committed to making personal changes for greater life satisfaction, then you are ready to seek therapy. Many people believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems” in order for therapy to be appropriate. This is not the case; anyone can benefit from therapy. Some even choose to come in for insight only.

Is our conversation in therapy confidential?2022-01-16T15:04:15-06:00

Confidentiality is one of the most important components in therapy, as successful therapy requires a high degree of trust. With few exceptions, the highly sensitive material that is discussed between you and your therapist will not be shared with anyone else without your permission. For example, your therapist may share information with someone on your healthcare team (your Physician, Naturopath, Attorney), but by law will only be allowed to release this information after obtaining your written consent. In addition, therapists are legally mandated to make certain disclosures in cases where there is suspicion of harm to oneself, harm to others, or child abuse. All such disclosures will be discussed with you in advance.

Do you offer telephone or virtual therapy sessions?2022-01-16T15:04:52-06:00

Yes. Our therapists offer psychotherapy sessions by telephone or (HIPPA compliant) virtual sessions if you are outside of Houston or are unable to attend your regularly scheduled sessions in person. The rate for these sessions is the same as your usual rate.

Do you prescribe medication?2022-01-16T15:05:17-06:00

Our therapists are not psychiatrists and therefore we do not prescribe medication. However, in some cases medication can be valuable in combination with psychotherapy. If your therapist determines that you could benefit from meeting with a psychiatrist, we can assist with referring you to someone in our trusted network of referrals.

How do I start therapy?2023-09-19T12:29:20-05:00
